i feel like this video needs a little explanation. otis grew 1/2 inch in 2 weeks and really needed some new clothes and shoes.
we went to the store and picked out some rad new kicks, brought them home, and this is how he walks in them. he said to me when we took them off, "mom, they're too long." i'm not quite sure what that means exactly but he still does not love them. i would have appreciated that before we waited in line for about an hour to buy them.
wondering why we waited in line for an hour to buy them?? well, after driving for an hour to get to h&m, otis puking all over himself and his car seat just as we were about to park, and realizing that everybody in the entire state of utah decided to go to h&m at the same time i was not about to go home empty handed. zombie walking or not, he's wearing these shoes.

*moral of the story: don't go to h&m in utah.

we got to see bailey jo and jayden but didn't get enough pictures. not sure what i was thinking. can you believe the january utah weather that we've had?? i'm loving it. otis was so proud of himself for swinging like a big kid, and he followed bailey around and tried to do everything she did. she's quite the little athlete and a really sweet cousin. no pictures of jj. imagine bailey but smaller and even more of a tyler look-a-like.

what started out as an innocent boys' photoshoot ended pretty ugly. otis was crying and in time-out, poor little sheppy was in tears, but we couldn't help but laugh when we discovered that ryan got photographic evidence of the whole thing without realizing it. the second picture may look worse, but the most damage was done in the last one (just look closely at otis in the background.) he is mostly a good big brother but he does have his 2 year old and big brother moments.

to sum up our christmas day for those of you that we didn't get to spend the day with went a little something like this: sheppy loved all of the toys and PAPER and us that were on the floor all morning, otis loves present (one would have been just as good as 50- in fact, it was hard to get him to put one down to open another) we got lots of awesome stuff-including a book about food trucks with a recipe for bacon jam, otis loves pajamas and found a way to wear 3 differnt sets (2 his, one shep's) all at once, did i mention that shep loves to eat everything he can get his hands on? otis should not have cookies and candy for breakfast and mid-morning snacks-it leads to a nasty sugar-free meltdown, the only way to fix said meltdown is with sugar-y yogurt (our home-made wasn't cold enough yet) the only good kind of mess is a christmas morning mess, a snowflake christmas tree is better than a real one to me, and an entire day spent with family was really the best gift.

oh, and a ginormous thank you to lee for spending the day with us and taking all of these great pictures.

this little one just turned 6 months old today. we love him so and thought we'd write a few things about him.

he is not a huge fan of people food yet. otis was a pro at this age, on the level of koboyashi.
he does not like a bottle. at all. no matter what might be in it.

he does not sit in the bumbo, which means we get to hold him so much more.
he can scoot like nobody's business. sooner than otis did and is much better at it.
he likes to sleep. (thank you sweet baby) otis still does not.

he is squeal-y just like otis was/is.

there isn't a onesie too nice for him to get poop on.
he seems more independent than otis ever did, but when he wants attenttion he will definitely let you know.
he is so happy and smiley and LOVES to smooch/slober on my cheek. it grosses other people out but i love it.
his favorite "toys" are #1 the battery charger cord for our computer. #2 any paper that might be laying on the floor. #3 any pen that might be laying on the floor. #4 rugs with tags on them, but only the tag. #5 any toy that otis has ignored, but as soon as he starts chomping on it otis snags it back up.
he loves baths, but usually only for a few minutes.
he loves otis most of the time. pretty surprising with all of the toy snatching and hitting and biting and being sat on.

our little family would not be the same without him, and we are so excited to watch him grow up.

we got to go to the beach. oti L. O. V. E. D. the sand, but wasn't the biggest fan of the ocean. i must say that i feel pretty much the same way (unless it's in fiji or hawaii where the water is warm.) ryan got some great pictures of otis and his sandy feet, and a much less great one of me looking lion-esque. oh, what i would give to live in one of those houses on the beach!

these are a little overdue, but we still wanted to put them up and tell everyone to go to nyc. if for nothing else to eat like we did. oh and to visit some pretty awesome friends.
a lobster roll that was calling to us. we had just stuffed ourselves at porchetta and found this gem. i couldn't pass it by. it was about the size of a credit card and put us back $8!! so worth it though. that's practically a whole lobster in there.
shake shack. what you can't really see is the long line that we were in. there were plenty of dogs and birds for oti to chase while we waited for over an hour. unfortunately the food was too good to even pause for a second to take a picture.
calexico...pretty amazing that some of the best food we've ever had was cooked up on the side of the road in this thing.
worth the trek and wait and dirty ncy sidewalk to sit and eat. lucky for us it was in soho
this would be the delish crack sauce from calexico that oti is dipping into. oh man, i want some right now.

this momma is one lucky lady. just look at these cuties.

i know it was a week ago, but i thought i'd share this anyway. my beautiful lilies from oti, complete with a hand painted pot that says "o (heart ' s) mom" i just about died. ryan said that otis picked them out himself. and by picked them out he meant that he saw them, grabbed them and riped a leaf off. so, he moved that one to the back of the stash and got an undamaged one for me. and from ry... some herbs (not herb.) he thinks that is a funny joke, i only kind of laughed. i love every second of this mom thing. i might not sound like i do when i have to practically hog-tie the little one just to change his diaper, but i do. being a mom is so many different joys and challenges all at the same time, and i wouldn't have it any other way. i love it, and it helps that i have the most healthy and happy baby in the whole wide world.

it still blows my mind that we have a kid. the fact that this kid is now six months old is even more crazy. honestly, there isn't a happier baby around. not even a few shots could make him frown (see picture with bandaged leg.) he brought so much joy into our lives the instant he arrived and it has only gotten better since then. i can't wait for another six months.

uh...you know it's bad when you're wearing jeans and a t-shirt and someone says, "you look nice. did you do something special?" not even joking, someone said that to me last week. i'm afraid i've reached the 'let herself go' status. i'm sorry ryan and baby. if there is a way to make sweats and unwashed hair look cute i would appreciate some help. i'm sorry, i don't think i can just step into some pumps and like magic it 'works.' maybe it would help if i was 5'10 and 100 lbs, oh and looked like a model. i wish could blame it entirely on the baby but somehow i managed to get up and shower, (hair washing included) dry and curl my hair, and dressed in my sunday best today all by 10:00 A.M. and that's with a wakey baby. maybe otis is trying to tell me something. "hey lady...you won't be so horrible to look at all day if you at least try. i'll even be a good little baby and play with my toys to help you out." thank you baby. sometimes the truth hurts.

well, this mothering thing has been completely wonderful and insanely hard at the same time. i've had lots of help from many different people, but i absolutely could not have made it through these last 5 weeks without RYAN.

here he is hitting the first of his back-to-back home runs at his last softball game. we were so proud.

this one has a funny story. i had given him a little extra food in a bottle because i thought he would be starving after sleeping for SIX HOURS! i told him as he was chowing down not to eat too much because it would make his tummy hurt. sure enough, he chowed the whole thing (1 ounce) and a few minutes later almost all of it came back up. this is what he looked like right after. bubbsie"s first hangover.

He's here! Otis was born Sunday night at 9:30. 6lbs 11oz, 20in, and eyes as blue as the midnight sky.
Jojo tackled labor in a little under 12 hours, apparently she's a pro at that too.
We are still at the hospital until tomorrow (tuesday) morning, so you will have to wait until then to see pics, but he does look a lot like the first pic in the last post.
It's been a crazy couple of days, and now some kid has me as a dad. Crazy stuff! Stay tuned, pictures tomorrow.

last week in my yoga class i discovered that i can't really do this anymore. what the?! how am i supposed to stretch my back now? this little guy better be worth it.

i've been trying to learn how to knit. it's so much harder than i want it to be. i'm starting off with things like this...

ryan made this awesome stencil. by hand! and then he made a teeny-tiny baby version of it too. as soon as he's done with a project like this he'll say something to the effect of him not being artistic. yeah right. he's funny.

ryan 'accidentally' restored my ipod so now i can have all of the fun apps that you get with an iphone. i was less than excited about it at first, mostly because i'm not much of a gamer. until now. it all started with this. WORDLE. you get six letters and try to spell as many words as you can.

as quickly as my love for wordle began it also ended. why? muns!! if you see a word that you don't recognize you touch it and the definition magically appears. great right? and, if you're smart you can suggest that words be added if they weren't already there. muns, i don't even remember what the other letters were but muns was a word that i missed. not recognizing it i touched it and this is what it said...(i promise i'm not even joking)

What?!? that's not a definition. i even wikipedia'd the hot cross buns children song and nowhere did it suggest putting any kind of buns anywhere, not even in your muns. so, i don't waste my time with it anymore.

we had lunch at pizzeria-mozza. you'll never guess who we saw. it was him, THE iron chef, mario batali. it was crazy. there he was eating lunch with his family. they all wore bright orange crocs if you would believe it. except for his wife, and i don't blame her. if there's anything worse than crocs on adults, it's bright orange crocs on adults.

next we saw luda shooting his latest music vid on melrose. that was pretty cool. the best part was seeing the paparazzi run down the street to get their shots.

we had to go to MILK for their bon-bons. they were so good. i'm already planning the flavors that i want to try for my own home-made little treats.

not only are we stalking the blanco but we also visit this place every time we go to l.a. we don't know who owns it, how much it would cost or even where to begin to open our own restaurant, but at least we found the most perfect place when we figure all of the other stuff out.

perfect right? the pictures don't do it justice i promise. should i be concerned about all of the tagging? fairfax is supposed to be one of the boundaries for the crips. yikes!

i still can't get over this event that we did last week. who would pay $300 a plate for their wedding guests? needless to say the food was good. the place was incredible too. we're the exclusive caterer for rancho las lomas. if i'm honest, the wildlife still scares me a little though.
this menu makes our jdawgs look a bit skimpy don't you think.

get me to the beach

we've been in california for three months and haven't been to the beach yet. no bonfires, no sunbathing, no attempts to surf, nothing. well, ryan and i went to the pier one night right after we moved here but that's it. i decided to look through some pics as some sort of motivation to get there. with a fun new camera and a lot less people on the beach we really have no excuse.

p.s. that's me making a" j" out of the california "i"

these days... more often than not i'll come gliding through the front door, jubilant and refreshed from the latest yoga class. while my body is feeling so strong and limber (the knots haven't quite developed in my neck and shoulders at this point) my hair has taken a turn for the worst. the multiple french doors that lead into the studio are rarely cracked not only to help the room stay warm, allowing the muscles to stretch to new lengths, but also to block out the noise from a bustling pacific coast highway, oh and most importantly to make it impossible for my recently flat ironed hair to stay straight. you wouldn't believe how humid this room gets, or at least i didn't realize how humid it would get. i've pretty much had to retire my flat iron. my frumpyness is at an all time high. so, gliding through the front door... and there he is, perched on the bed, computer rightfully resting on his lap. the squinting makes it obvious that he is really concentrating.

ryan is finally learning how to type! i don't know how an english major and someone that loves to im and gtalk and search the web as much as he does could have gone on for so long just plunking away at the keys. some might say that the little ducky and other animals that are teaching him the correct way to type are silly and childish, but i think it's admirable. i wasn't joking about the animals either. he's mastered the homerow, top row is almost there, it's that bottom row that gets him. he'll get it soon though.

don't get me wrong, i do love summer, but i'm feeling completely useless these days. the one yoga class per week and catering every now and then isn't enough to keep me satisfied. yeah, you heard me, i'm a "chef" at an amazing catering company. 24 carrots. you should check it out 24carrotscatering.com. i'm still shocked myself. mostly because i have ZERO experience and they're still letting me try it out. my first party was on saturday in newport beach. the house was amazing and the party was beyond anything i've ever seen. i can't even begin to guess how much $$ they spent on this party. i'm pretty sure i'll never eat shrimp cocktail again. i did 400 of them. i couldn't get the smell of the cocktail sauce off of my hands. you can see a picture of the little gems on the website in the gallery section. just one little (jumbo) shrimp in the mini-wine glass with all that other stuff that's just there for looks. my next event is on august 2nd. can't wait.

ry and i have been cooking up a quite a storm. maybe more like a gentle ocean breeze, but with limited funds we can't go too crazy. i made homemade marshmallows the other day. they were not only delicious but so adorable. heart-shaped! a s'mores and peeps lovers dream come true. i'll definitely be making s'more of those soon. (sorry, i couldn't resist) tomorrow, it's graham crackers. we made breakfast for dinner tonight. caramel apple french toast. since tyler florence said we could take credit for it, the least i could do was re-name it. if it didn't disappear so quickly we could have taken a picture of it for all to see. maybe next time.

one more thing. we saw wolf parade on friday, awesome btw, and were planning on going to dinner at animal restaurant, but decided to go to chipotle instead. they never let you down. we were walking back to the car and i saw the MOST PERFECT PLACE FOR OUR RESTAURANT!! it's wishful thinking of course but it really is exactly what we want. we'll post some pics of it next time we go to l.a.

we're about to start the final leg of our tour. that's pretty much what it is so that's what we're calling it. we were even going to make tour t-shirts but figured we would be the only dorks that would want one. SATURDAY WAS SUCH AN AMAZING DAY!! i still can't get over how perfect everything was. it was great to share it with family and so many good friends. our stop in ML was equally as perfect. we look forward to seeing all of our fans, i mean, friends and family in california. check back soon for pics.

for what, i keep asking? first of all i don't understand what these colors are for and why i have to choose them so "early" (i know... we're T-minus 20 days) but i don't even have a dress yet. in fact, all we do have taken care of are the three reception locations, the invites (finally) and jdawgs catering the after party here in utah. i've never done one of these wedding things before. i apologize to all of you who have been patiently waiting for me to reach a decision. you'll probably think i'm stupid but here is what i've come up with. brown (hence the brown invitations) and navy. i want to have pink(s) for flowers with some orange ones too. since i'm hoping that my dress will be ivory that will have to be thrown in as well. it's been quite the process coming up with these oh-so-important colors but i think i'm done. so if these colors are important to you, there you go. find those matching dresses and god speed! i have a feeling i made this decision waaaay more difficult than it needed to be, but that's what i do best.

isn't she adorable? it was her birthday yesterday and we missed it. sorry we couldn't be there to celebrate with you sal, but we'll make it up to you soon enough. i hope it was a good one.
p.s. i have amazing sisters already but i'm really excited to have more. see you in 20 days! (can you believe it?)
